Many patients are good candidates for dental veneers. Our experts at Pinellas Family Dental—Dentists Don and Amy Vespa—ensure optimal, long-lasting results.
Dental veneers are wafer-thin shells of porcelain, that when bonded to teeth, not only improve the appearance of your smile, but also strengthen the teeth. They are one of the most conservative and affordable smile makeover treatments. They can be used to correct a multitude of cosmetic problems, including:
- Covering dental cracks, chips, and internal stains
- Reshaping irregularly shaped teeth
- Increasing the size of a tooth that is too small
- Closing minor gaps between teeth
- Concealing minor to moderate misalignment of teeth
With proper oral hygiene and regular visits to the dentist, your veneers can last decades or even your lifetime. If one becomes accidentally chipped, it can be easily replaced.
A smile makeover with porcelain veneers can be achieved in as few as two weeks!
One of our dentists will be happy to examine your mouth and talk to you about your smile makeover goals and preferences. Dr. Amy Vespa or Dr. Don Vespa will discuss with you the advantages of treatment options that are most appropriate for you, taking into consideration the optimal – long-lasting functional and aesthetic results you want. If the dentist concludes that veneers are a good option for you, and you decide you want to proceed with veneers, your teeth will need to be prepped. Your dentist will also create a plan for our partnering dental ceramist to make your porcelain veneers of the right shape, size and color. Your dentist will choose a shade of porcelain that is a near-perfect match to your nearby teeth.
At the tooth preparation appointment, Dr. Amy Vespa or Dr. Don Vespa will remove a small amount of tooth enamel from the front of each tooth that will receive a veneer. This will be gently done, and the amount of enamel removed will be minimal. You should feel very little during this preparatory step. We will then take impressions of your teeth to make a model of where the veneers will exactly fit.
Our partnering dental ceramist will use the model and the planned design for your veneers. Our dentists will communicate fully with the ceramist to ensure best results. While your veneers are being custom made, we can usually provide temporary veneers to prevent tooth sensitivity. When your custom porcelain veneers have been sent back to our office, you will return, and your dentist will bond them to your teeth. We will ensure your satisfaction with the look, feel and function of your new smile!
Dental veneers are easy to maintain!
One of the great benefits of veneers is that they are easy to maintain. You will simply need to keep up regular dental hygiene, including brushing, flossing, and visits to our office. You will also need to refrain from chewing ice, biting your nails, or using your teeth to open packages, as these types of activities can shorten the lifespan of your veneers.
